Broadcast Emulation Engine - About Page
============================
The Broadcast Emulation Engine uses a series of Python scripts to automate scheduling and playback of files in a local media library to simulate the broadcast television experiece to the best of its ability. Metadata is scanned into the BEE library from Kodi-compliant NFO files, which can be generated using the free
tinyMediaManager application.
A Prevue Channel-styled web interface is included to aid in configuring the application and navigating channels. An additional script for client devices (known as 'drones') is provided for setting up a keyboard/remote control shortcut interface with on-screen display to provide a classic TV-viewing experience.
The application works by instructing a headless VLC player instance on a client device to begin playback of specified media over a network-shared location. VLC then loads the file to the device and begins playback. In this method, BEE is not a streaming application which keeps server-side network and CPU load low. BEE does not interface with other media center applications and is intended to stand on its own, with only Python, VLC and tinyMediaManager as dependencies. The client device running VLC should be plugged directly into the desired television or display device.
BEE supports multiple client devices which can be used to simultaneously 'tune in' to different channels, if desired.
